Hexagon update 412

People, it has been a while.  So much has happened.  I take all my photos with the intent of putting them on my blog.  But....my computer died and I lost all, ALL, a.l.l., A L L my photos and tunes!  I got a new computer after a week of waiting and retrieved what I could which was not much and so here I am.  I'm still learning how to use my new MacBook Pro!

Two weeks ago, Jo and Meg shared their stashes with me for the hexagon project.  It was tremendously generous and I came home and immediately made up the hexes.  Here is my process.  Thank you guys!  Oh, I must mention that I laid out all the hexes and the darned thing was so small; that is why they pitched in to help me.  

I roughly cut out 2 1/2" squares from various fabrics that were presented to me.  

I have a LOT of freezer paper hexagons so was able to iron them on when I got home.

I'm trying to fan my stash!

I saved all the snippets as I will be making a quilt using them soon.

Here they are all ready to be basted and added to the stash.

Uki love for the Hexie Project!

I've been working on my Hexie Quilt; only to come to the realization that what I have is NOT enough for the size I wanted!  I think I made it a bit wider than originally planned and I took out all the whites and browns and blacks.  Gee.....

I finished two rows of pink and was laying it down when it got some serious lovin' from my little Uki.  Enjoy.....

In the end, I found a different setting on my camera so the pics were much better.  After she left the Hexies; I rolled a marble at her but it jumped when it hit that metal piece on the floor, forgot the name, and hit her.  She was looking at me and held my gaze as if to say, "But whyyyyy Momma??" Why indeed would I hurt her!  She played for a while and then settled on her little quilt by my window.  She has taken to fold it over and lay her head on it.  So cute!

Hexie Quilt Love...

I FINALLY STARTED PIECING THEM!!!!

I finally started piecing my many, many hexie pieces!!!

I am enjoying the process but am S.I.C.K. of blues!!  I have 3/4" hexies and am sewing 37 in a row and then joining the rows.  I'm just about finished putting all the blues together and can't wait to start the purples!

Hexagon Progress February 2011

Hi!  I've been making Hexagons lately.  Actually, I took a short break but am back into this project!  There is so much going on out there in blog land and here in town and I am just trying to keep up and enjoy myself!  Of course, my iPod and Bose speakers help a GREAT deal!  Yay!

Here you see all my hexies up to date and man, doesn't look like much!??  I need about another 1,000.  Yep, as in ONE THOUSAND!  Oh maaaaann!

 Oooh, Eminem is on my iPod now!  Love him!

I traced out another page of freezer paper.  Don't know how many but I KNOW it's not 1,000!  It will keep me busy for a little while.  I also have to go and prepare some more fabric.  Then my kit can be ready and I will work on it whenever I can and on Mondays at Monday morning quilt group.

Here's hoping that I can cut them out tonight during American Idol!  Maybe not!  I'll be bouncin' all over!  Oh, tonight is elimination night!  Who is America gonna oust?  Paul had a cold but I was cutting brownies so missed his performance.  Pia was spot on.  James is my very favorite!  He is awesome!  KC was good too bringing Nirvana to the show!  I'll say Naima.  She was not impressive to me.  Forget bouncin', I'll be bummin'!

A little sewing done...

Today I did some data entry for my friend at the COD (Centre for Omani Dress). We ended up talking a lot! It was nice as we don't get to see or spend much time together as we are both very busy.

Here I stole my Ikea makeup box and used it to place my hexies. I ran out of room but am still busy making them so I had to find another box. I can't just go to Ikea as it is in Dubai and that is a trek. So, I did then next best thing...

I then looked around and found an empty box for DMC embroidery floss and am using that. I have been busy making these whenever time permits.

I've given myself a deadline to get my supplies for the hexies sorted out for the summer by Tuesday night as we leave the following Monday morning. I need to shop still and clean and sort out my studio as I will be locking it up for the summer. You know, all those details that need to be done before you take a trip! Then, tonight, I am meeting a few friends to have dinner. No sewing then!

America, here we come!....

I went shopping today!...

Just look at what I found! I will have it done for this year!

This is my process: I take freezer paper and my acrylic template and start tracing. Oh, how tedius and utterly BORING! I then cut them out with my nice paper scissors and put them in my sandwich baggie for safe keeping!

Then I go to my itty bitty ironing board that I desperately need to make a new cover for (eek!) and lay out my squares. I only have one here. Anyhow, I then iron on the freezer paper template and eyeball a 1/4" seam allowance.

Don't look at my ungroomed finger! I then start with a knot and put it on the outside for easy removal later and begin to tack the fabric down. As you can see here in this picture; I was reusing the templates (the beauty of freezer paper) as I finished the flowers but now I am not going that route anymore!

I then continue sewing the corners down to secure a nice point.

Isn't she cute? She was given to me in a swap I did in 1998.

There is a little bit on my hexie 'process'. Thanks for stopping by. Now, off to cut all those hexies. One thing I must note is that if I iron on the freezer paper; after a while, it seems to loosen. It doesn't matter cuz I can use my sister's iron when I get to America!
