Lots of people transfered images (mostly the flag) to the fabric we provided.  This is the first of many.

My daughter made this one!  I love how she painted the water and sewed on the beads as pearls.

I made this one.  I love the coffeebean fabric I chose to spell out the name of the country!

I couldn't cut out Uki.  She is so darned cute and my biggest fan.  Or maybe I'm HER biggest fan!!  This beautiful block is hand painted with incredible use of embellishments!

A beaded necklace sewn on.  This did not come back the size I needed so I had to add the black circular border.  I think it works!

I made this and just used Sharpies.  This was the very last block that was included.  My daughter did the flowers, which is their national flower, and she did not like my colorful letters so went over it in black and then wrote my name.  Hmmmm....

I have to say, now that this project is over and permanently hanging at school: that I have learned a lot.  I've learned about myself; how to work with others; how to fix problem blocks in a diplomatic way and how to stay on a deadline.

I would like to thank all that were involved in this project!

School Quilt 1

Hi!  Been away a LONG time!  I have been wanting to come back and post and every single photo I take; I take with my blog in mind!

Nonetheless....

I have been working on a school project with some other ladies.  Here is my story!

We have 68 nationalities in my kid's school.  Someone came up with the idea of commemorating our diversity and celebrating 25 years that this school is open with a QUILT.  Right up my alley!

I chose to make blocks for Colombia, my birth place and the USA, where I grew up and my heart resides!  

Here is a sneak peak of my Colombian block.  I chose to do the flag but did not want another flat image of it.  I tried to ruffle it up a bit!

I pulled the colors of the flag out of my stash.

I chose this dark coffeebean fabric, which you KNOW I love and am really pleased with how it turned out.

This is a bit bright and couldn't figure out how to make it more dull but I ruffled the strips.  In the Colombian flag; the yellow should be double the size of the blue and red.  I did cut it out as such but you really can't see that!

I did not extend the ruffles all the way to the right.  I thought I could finagle it later but in order to anchor the ruffle you have to sew a line down the center and then it was too late!

I zigzagged the letters on with cream thread.  I'm pleased.

I also made the USA block using left over stars and stripes fabric that I used on a previous project.

I pulled out my gun and put lots of Swarovski crystals on it!

My Ali made this block for China.  He used paints and drew it out himself.  The only thing I did was to write CHINA in English as he wrote it in Chinese.  Did you notice that Uki LOVES this block!  It has her 'paw' of approval!

My daughter made the Bahraini block.

She used gold paint for the face mask, ( NIQAB ), and glass beads for the pearls in the basket.  Love it!  It says BAHRAIN in Arabic above.  I can READ it now!

So, that is what we did.  I will post in another post the problem blocks and how I sorted them out.  I learned a lot from this experience indeed!
