Sorting Out My Fabric! Finally!!

Hi!  It's been a while since I have posted anything.  I have been busy working on several projects and I finally snapped with the disorganization of my fabric!  So....let the pictures tell the story!

FABRIC ORGANIZATION!!

This is just where I store the bulk of my fabric.  I have bins with scraps and after I attacked this bunch; I pulled a lot out to put into a new scrap bin made up of larger pieces.

I started with Pinks.  I folded the fabric selvage to selvage.  Apparently they come off the bolt like this.  You should get about 20"- 22" wide.

Then I started wrapping the fabric around my 6x24" ruler.

I folded or wrapped all the way.  I tucked in the raw edges if it was too short or overlapped a little.
Then I folded in half.

I decided to put the fabrics in Rainbow order.

Here are the purples.  Yeah, I realize that the Robert Kaufman is upside down!

I tackled the greens.  I had a LOT of greens so I had to make two cubby's worth of greens.  It's interesting this new way.  I can see every single piece of fabric I have and I can also see what I tend to buy more of!!!

Uki got up to pose with her favorite color!  Pink!  Love her little Lion Cut!!

TA DAAAAA.......
Honestly; I cropped the other half of the shelf out.  I have drawers and books and papers all over.  I still have a ton of work to do but the main stash of fabric is organized and finished and I'm so excited!  I enjoyed this process but also got very bored.  I enjoyed seeing what fabrics I have and remembering why I bought it and wondered why I bought some of them!!  Hahahahaha....

Stay tuned as I have some projects to finish.  I have deadlines and can not get to them until I finish my room.  It took me one week to get these mofo's in this shape!!!

Baby Charity Quilt

My friend Maggie asked me to quilt and bind and prepare this quilt for the end of May for delivery to some children in Muscat. I ended up stippling this quilt as it's my go-to quilting; but I honestly thought it would suit the top best. Plus, it's practice for my own skill level! I'm very pleased how it turned out and Maggie did a wonderful job putting the top and backing together and also preparing the binding for me. Do you know which pattern this is? Finished quilt measures 38" x 50"

The quilt posing with my dessert roses.

A close up of the quilting and piecing.  Ok.  Just a close up!!

The backing.  I like how Maggie incorporated the purple strip in the quilt.  It is the same as the binding.

All folded up.

Snippets Technique

A few of us finally got together to learn the Snippets technique. I had to end it rather quickly but here are some shots!

So far; it's been a good way to learn using landscapes.  This scene is purple flowers on a forest bed.  It's very interesting indeed.

Here we put a frame around the image to see that it is clear.

This one is Jo's.  I really like the shimmery water and all that color.  She was innovative enough to do that.  I'm still way inside the box!!

I found some photos!  Here we are getting our workspace ready and cutting, cutting and cutting!

Jo was like a demon!  She was so fast and so was Corinne! I was very slow...

Here Paramjeet is helping the ladies with their vision.

Jo's house was packed and shipped so I lent her my Janome.  It was fun to sew on her again!  We put a piece of black net over the picture.  Then we just did little circles all around with monofilament thread.

There you have it.  A very busy afternoon with the guild meeting for us quilters held in the morning.

Another Aneela Hoey tutorial; the Tissue Box Cover!!

I made this tissue box cover from Aneela Hoey's tutorial found here.  It was another easy to follow pattern!  I really appreciate that!

However, the tissue box size did not coordinate with what is sold here in Oman.  So my friend Jo taught me how to measure (math is not my strong suit!) the tissue box that I actually keep on hand and here it is....further down...

FIRST TISSUE BOX COVER

Uki helping me cut the fabric for this project.

She is so much fun to play with!

Here I, uh, WE were marking lines for quilting.

I used one of my favorite tools; the Kwik Klip to baste.

The quilting was fun.  I used one of the kid's yellow watercolor pencils and quilted using almost the same shade of yellow thread.  I see that I did not use the walking foot!

All done!

The pieces are ready for sewing the binding to the back.

Sewing the binding.

Uki, every step of the way with me!

Tada!

Wheras the above looks good; it was way too tight across the top and the length was short.  This is the power of photography!  I ripped the ends trying to get it to fit on.

SECOND ATTEMPT TO FIT MEASUREMENTS OF MY BOX

Uki....

I decided to stipple it all over.  It was looking like a whole lot of pink...

I like my binding clips.

I decided to do some decorative stitching on the binding parts.  I love it!
