I joined my first "_____-a-long"!!!!

I'm so excited! I joined my first thingy!! A Hexagon Charm Quilt group a long thingy!!?? Get it together girl!

Melanie over at Texasfreckles is hosting it with an ENORMOUS amount of HELPFUL information! I had started this bad boy project eons ago. Did I already talk about it in my previous post??? Hmmm...

I'm so excited! I was going to start on a Hardanger summer project but I will continue to work on this one when I travel to the United States! I can't wait to see my Mami and Papi (Spanish for Mom and Dad). It has been two years since I have seen my daddy and he suffered weight gain and Shingles. Nasty that is. My Mom came over to the Middle East a year ago November 2009. Wow. I miss them. My sister too. Her kids too. AMERICA too!

edited to say: Hexagon Charm Quilt PIECE a long! Got it!

Wordfull Wednesday

Cocoa over from Chocolate on My Cranium has started up her lovely Wordfull Wednesday!

This week it is all about family! Wow, let's see....

My Mami:

This was a wedding photo in Colombia.

My Papi:

I just had a tooth pulled. I am in the middle. My sister on the left and my dad.

My sister:

My sister had polio. That is why we left Colombia and came to the United States. My Mom left her parents and 15 brothers and sisters. Yep! Here is my Mom pushing my sister as we were at the zoo and it has always been difficult for my sister to walk much. This picture also completely captures my entire being. God knows what I was thinking!!

My Husband:

Here he is in formal Omani dress. I think he was going to a meeting with some ministry and perhaps with a royal. Can't remember. He has on what is called a Musar on his head. This is very formal. He has his Khanjar on around his waist on his belt. It is an Omani dagger. The white 'dress' is called a dishdasha. He wears leather sandals with this.

My daughter:

This is the coolest kid! She has been such a joy all her life. Just today she told me that she is the only kid that is 'friends' with her mother. This is not cool apparently and all she asked me was not to embarrass her on Facebook again! Hmmm... She is holding Oreo, our outside kitty.

My boy:

My son is so me! In so many ways. I see myself in him a lot. He is so funny and sweet and cute. He is so stubborn at times and hard to deal with but he is always my boy!

I would post about my kitties; Peaches and Uki but I have posted so much about them I think you all know already!!

Here is a picture of my mom's family. Five members are missing:

Gosh, that is my Grandmother or Abuelita Elvira and next to her is my Grandfather or Abuelito Jorge. The very top left blonde is my Mom! Then, the center boy is my Tio Pedro or Uncle Pedro. He is the only one that I grew up with on my Mom's side. The one on the far right passed away about two years ago. All in all, there were 16 kids in total; my Mom is #11 and there were 10 girls and 6 boys. There are three boys left and 8 girls left. My grandmother was a seamstress and made all their clothes that they are wearing. My paternal grandmother was also a seamstress! Perhaps the sewing machine was just meant to be for me!

Thanks for stopping by and having a bit of a read about my family.

Look what I got!

Isn't this the cutest panel of fabric? I got about up to the bottom of the tire of the next panel on top. You can't see it, it is on my couch. I chose this piece cuz I was given a choice and I'm an opportunist and took the more abundant fabric. You know you all would have done the same! I thought the extra bits would go great in my spiderweb or for the project I'm going to do.

Now, I wanted to make a huge floor pillow for my three year old adorable nephew. My daughter insists on a quilt. Not sure what I will do. It's so cute and he LOVES Cars!!

News, GOOD news!

Well, not all of it is good.  So I will start out with the 'bad' as I prefer to end this post with the good.

My dad has very bad Shingles.  I need to do some more research on what this is exactly. Apparently, my Mom had it some years ago and it was INTERNAL.  My dad has it now and it is EXTERNAL.  Don't get me wrong, it is still painful as I understand it.  Looks like since I had chicken pox twice in my life, I will be getting this too. Bummer for me!

I had a yahoo messenger date with my niece and I forgot.  She is six years old.  Ok, stop throwing things at me, I plum forgot!  She was waiting for me and posted tons of messages for 45 minutes.  I'm such a bad Taijaan!  She lives here and I will more than make it up to her!

Because of all this swine flu and my SIL's getting sick and all, my SIL#5 had to cancel her trip to visit her family in Saudi.  She is so upset and disappointed as you can imagine.  I feel so bad for her.

Good news!

1)  SIL#4 is still unconscious and still on a respirator but is responding to treatment and it looks like she will be coming out of this soon.  This is VERY good news as it got scary there.

2)  SIL#3 has gone home from the hospital and has a cough but is doing well.

3)  Got some fabric from my friend and she is delivering tomorrow!  I have been waiting on these puppies for a long time!  Will post more later...

4)  Placed a HUGE order from Joann's today!  I should get it in two weeks!

5)  Am supposed to go shopping with friends tomorrow and am so looking forward to it!

6)  Thanks to my good friend, I got some instructions delivered on my Mystery Quilt/Summer Challenge delivered today and can get started tomorrow again.  I have to get this done by September end.

7)  Am inspired to cook some new food inspired by miss Paula Deen!

Ok.  That is all I can think of.  I need to get Ali off to bed and off this couch and get Amal sorted out too.

Have a good one and thanks for stopping by.

My Sweet Mami!

I ordered some toys for Ali for good grades. He did so well for switching from the Arab school system to the Western school system this year. He had to repeat 4th grade too as his birthday fell that way. So, Amazon uses many companies and I learned that by having ordered a bunch of stuff from the UK and the postage I paid for using Aramex just about killed me. So, I sent the entire order (8 different companies under Amazon) to my Mom and she gathered it all and asked if I wanted anything else and Amal wanted Noxema for her face so she sent it and it got here in four days and, and, and she sent me this....

Now you have to know this, when she was here in November, December, January and part of Feburary; she had this really, super cool mirror that I declared one could see their soul with it! I bought myself one at Home Center and it was only 5X magnitude. So, just as Ali was opening his box with such fervor, I declared that I would not even get a candybar but then he pulled this out for me and I got the joke. I hope you were able to follow with me! I laughed so hard so if you ever see this Mami, muchas gracias! Lo estoy usando todos los dias!!!

I think that the note: Para (for) Diana (my Christian name) Love ya (you know, she even used slang!) xo (you know) Mami (the Spanish spelling). I will treasure this post-it more than the actual mirror! I miss her!

Stay tuned!...

Big Day for The Hubster

Here is Waqar, my hubby, in his formal attire. He was off yesterday to the Ministry to meet with some big wigs to sign a VERY big contract! It should be in the paper, so before I get the details wrong, stay tuned! This is good for anyone traveling to Oman by road and certainly good for our family!!!!
