It all started with this...

I belong to a Flickr Bee and the Queen for the month wanted an 'old forgotten block'. I found this one in an Australian Patchwork and Quilting 2003 magazine. I loved my friends so much I'm making sixteen for myself!  I'm really enjoying it.

So it looks like I have lots of color going on. I wish I had peach fabric but I don't. Can you suggest a color to try?

A good day!

Today was the last Monday that the Monday Quilt Group got together for the summer.  We finished the top we were all working on.  Someone had asked Pam to organize a summer project.  Different people were busy or traveling and as long as you came, Pam put a slip of paper in a jar with your name on it.  In September, when she comes back from vacation, we will do a draw.  The more days you were there the higher the chances of you winning.  This is the completed quilt top.

We all donated a fat quarter to make up this quilt.  A fat quarter is a piece of fabric that measures approximately 18" x 22".  Other fabrics were donated too.

We then proceeded to follow Pam's directions and then everyone had a job either sewing, ironing, cutting or just talking!  ;-)

I have a good chance of winning as I went every week save one week.  It has a masculine feel to it which is nice for a change.

I came home and cooked.  A friend asked me to post pictures of it.  I was so tired that I did not take better pictures.

Chicken Korma

We usually don't put potatoes in this dish but I did this time.

This is Hyderabadi Indian food.

It's late now and Ali and I are watching a movie.  It was a good day.

Stack n Whack is next!

Hi. I am just so wired this morning! I don't wanna jump on the treadmill until later tonight though! I am so happy to finally have the 'green light' for my summer trip to America! HOME!! I can't wait to set foot on her. I miss my parents so much and my dad just recovered from a bad case of Shingles. I saw his blisters on Skype!? 8(

I am also so stoked that I have three new followers!! Thanks Ladies and welcome to my world! I hope to 'meet' you soon on my comments box!

I started working on my Stack n Whack. A bit of a bummer there is that I signed up for the Muscat Quilt Guild's challenge but only like nine of us signed up so the Board decided to cancel. Still, I have a fire up my *&(^, so I will be working on it. Shall I show a sneak peak?

Uki wanted some lovin' while I was trying to take shots. I love this picture!!

ROUND ROBIN DONE!!

WooHoo! I am on a roll! I hope I can continue this up until mid June when the kids finish school and we leave for the summer. Then, that will be my break and shopping time in the US and then back to Oman and get back on my finishing up groove!

ROUND ROBIN 2006

A little backdrop on this story. I was living in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia while preggers with Ali and there was/is a huge quilting group established there. I was ecstatic to be a part of this group. It was very nicely run by the now famous Phillipa Naylor. One month during Show and Tell; a group of four ladies stood up and showed their Round Robins and the concept stuck in my head and I knew that I had to do this one of these days! Many years later, I was serving on the Muscat Quilt Guild Board and convinced the gals to join me. We had six ladies. We organized ourselves and got on with it. This is mine.

Amal stayed home from school today and I couldn't go to my Hardanger weekly meeting but hopefully will make it next week. She held this up for me and I wish I could get a better picture.

The first round was your own. We had to make a 14" square I think. We also provided all of our own fabrics. Good idea as this ascertained that you liked what you got! We also specified what we DID NOT WANT in our quilts. I specified that I did not want anymore hearts.

I had recently completed the top of a watercolor heart and turned it into a pillow. I used this method for my center block. I had also been wanting to make a blue and white quilt for some time so used these fabrics that I had been collecting.

The second round was triangles. Annabelle did this and somehow I did not complete the right measurement for the first round, so she had to put on the dark blue border on the first round too. Oopsie! ;)

The third round was Applique and Patricia did this. She knew I had and loved cats and I think it was WONDERFUL!! I also want you to see the quilting.

The fourth round was curves and Linda Reid did this painstaking task! It is so lovely! Just look at all those joins! Also, check out the quilting.

The fifth round was Squares and Rectangles. Astrid put together this lovely round. Check out the quilting. It has cats and spells out MEOW! Sooooo cute!!

The sixth and final round was Anything Goes to complete the top. Alice made this one for me. It is a pattern from Lynne Edward's book "The New Sampler Quilt" and it is called Delectable Mountains. Check out the quilting here too!

Mala from Dubai's Classic Quilts and Quilting quilted this for me and I just love each and every round! The center is a huge heart and is beautiful! She did hearts on the last round too and they are lovely.

This is my label that I printed up. I think I was very clever here! From left to right:

Annabelle's quilt: Round Six and it was very complicated. Forgot the name. You can barely see it in this photo on my label. I don't have one of when I finished working on it.

Patricia's quilt: Round Five: Squares and Rectangles

Linda's Quilt: Round Four: Curves. I did those fans. I struggled with it but loved it in the end.

Astrid's Quilt: Round Three: Applique. I researched and found four Chinese words and enlarged them and did my first ever machine applique. Was REAL pleased with it.

Alice's Quilt: Round Two: Triangles. I actually drafted this. Very proud of myself!

Well, thanks for listening. I have been dying to tell the world about this project! It is folded up on my shelf waiting for it's new home!

Thanks for stopping by!

Spiderweb Quilt Quilted!!!!!!

F I N A L L Y !! My Spiderweb Quilt is finished. I decided to quilt it by stippling it and I tried to make it small. I L O V E the way it has turned out!!!!

The photo above is the entire wall hanging quilt that my daughter is holding.

Here is one close up.

I FINISHED ALI'S MYSTERY QUILT FROM SIX YEARS AGO! WOO HOO!!

I can't believe that I am finished! I worked hard all day sewing the never ending binding on today! I had to take breaks as I have an injury on my whole forearm and it flares when I do intense hand anything!

Off to the store I go to get lunch items for my babies! Was too busy trying to get this quilt done. I am really pleased with my choice of binding and my hand quilting that also hurt my arm!

It is in the washing machine right now and then it will be dried and then on Ali's body!

Stay tuned tomorrow for some pictures!!

Woohoo!!!

edited to add:

Here it is. Ali is thrilled!

Thanks for stopping by!

I made this today!

I signed up to make a baby quilt that was in a kit for the kids in the Oncology ward. These are not my fabrics but it was a lot of fun to work with something that I would never buy! I really really like this block and I think I will be making it again; but much larger! It is a nice way to showcase some favorite fabrics for the center! I also like the design that the yellow fabric makes. I put this together today and hope to tie it tomorrow. I plan on using a new technique where I don't need a binding. Thanks for stopping by!

Busy week, have a look!

SEWING:

As usual, Uki 'helped' me out while I was working HARD on my Spiderweb Quilt. She got a hold (ok, maybe I threw it at her!? ;0) of a long strip of fabric. She is so much fun!

Of course, I took a much needed break to watch and capture her playing. I had to make sure she wouldn't actually eat it, because she would ya know!

We bought this little foofy bed at Build a Bear, now available in Dubai and originally from St. Louis, yeah! We gave it to Uki and she LOVES it!! I put it at the end of my table as she would inadvertently always sit right in the middle of my work. It is working out a charm! She loves it! You can sort a see my SWQ in progress on the right.

She was going to town.

COOKING:

I made Tahari the other day. It took about three hours and it doesn't look so great here with the evening yellow-y cast over it but it is good eatin'! Hear??

KIDS PERFORMING AT SCHOOL FOR UN DAY:

Here is my Lulu in the front with the Omani outfit. Her school put on QUITE a performance for the 3rd Annual UN Day Concert. Her part was at the end for the Parade of Nations, and Ali performed in the themed A Night With The Stars. She looked beautiful with her stuff on and holding the Omani flag. Jill taught me well as I was able to put on her jewelry and veils by myself! The second night, she chose to sit in the audience with me while Ali performed. There are 65 nationalities at the ABA and yesterday, the 18th of November is Oman's National Day and His Majesty's birthday.

Here is a sweet picture of Amal on the right with her two friends; Farah from Malaysia in her national dress and Charlotte from Holland. Aren't they beautiful??!!

The second night's performance, Ali sang backup of a Hindi song for this talented young girl. The song is Taare Zameen Par.

BAKING!:

Ahhh, now, for this beauty! The roses were difficult and frustrating! It took a lot to get my icing just right. Finally, I got it and successfully made these. My friend made the center one.

My two friends Laila from Time for Tea and Isra from Sew 2B Happy could not make it for a tasting today (Thursday, Happy Bday Lulu!!), you can join me for the next one! I then picked up lovely Paulina from school yesterday, with my two, and Larissa, her mom, met us at home with Duncan Donuts! The kids had the donuts and Larissa and I had my cake and a VERY strong cup of coffee! Sorry Papi (my dad), Soy Colombiana y no puedo hacer una taza de cafe! L and I had fun on the computer ;0 and she liked my cake so much she told me that we should open a cafe!!??

Here is Larissa with a piece and very, VERY happy!!

MMMMMMMMmmmmm good!

BACK TO SEWING!:

Then, I took the kids to Cafe Ceramique and froze my butt off man! We had a great time and when we got home and the kids went to bed, Uki was waiting for me to get back to sewing! Where is my hubby in all this? He left for Dubai for a few days for the Dubai Golf Cup.

So, lots more happened this week but I don't have pics so will omit! Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!
